Fox Mandal managing partner Som Mandal stood for West Bengal assembly elections on BJP ticket yesterday, now awaits count

Som Mandal, Fox Mandal’s Delhi-region managing partner, has stood for West Bengal assembly elections in Shyampukur on a BJP ticket.

When contacted, Mandal confirmed that the elections had taken place yesterday but said he could not comment further until outcome of the count, which was expected to end on 19 May (see India Today’s live blog of the ongoing election here).

the Times of India had reported last month:

Another interesting BJP candidate this year is advocate Som Mandal, managing partner of attorney firm Fox Mandal. He joined BJP last year and will contest from Shyampukur.

The Indian Express’ Delhi Confidential column had reported in January of last year:

Som Mandal, the managing partner of one of India’s largest law firms, is the latest entrant to the BJP. Legal circles are agog with rumours that Mandal, who is from Kolkata, is planning to contest the next Assembly elections in West Bengal on a BJP ticket. The man himself is not saying much as of now, only maintaining that he joined the BJP to work for the welfare of the people.

While Som Mandal was instrumental in making Fox Mandal a national and international brandname with aggressive expansion, the firm fell on harder times during the global economic crisis, eventually undoing its Mumbai merger with Little & Co after losing a lot of partners.

Anyway, while we wait for final results, in the meantime, here are some pictures of Som Mandal from the campaign trail, from his campaign Facebook page.
